Ascend

NICAS Ascend is a climbing course designed specifically for disabled and neurodivergent climbers, delivered in our fully equipped climbing centre. More than just learning to climb, the course uses climbing as a vehicle to support physical, mental, and social development—helping each climber grow in confidence, resilience, and connection.

Every session is tailored to the individual, with plenty of space for progression at a pace that suits them. Small class sizes ensure our instructors can focus on each climber, offering the right balance of challenge and support. Climbers also receive a personal logbook to track their progress, celebrate achievements, and record awards along the way.

The course covers core climbing skills while also encouraging personal growth and independence. Our instructors are trained and experienced in working with a wide range of disabilities and neurodivergent needs, but we also recognise that every climber is unique. By working together, we aim to make climbing accessible to all.

I am a wheelchair user, is Ascend right for me?

We currently offer a wheelchair abseil wall for assisted climbing and are finalising a new rig to enable wheelchair users to access more of our vertical walls. If you’re unsure whether this course is right for you, our team is happy to arrange a pre-visit or conversation to discuss specific needs and how we can best support you.

How can I track my progress?

We sell the Ascend Books for £17.50 - They come in A5 size but we can order in A4 size at no extra cost. We recommend attending for a few sessions before buying the book to ensure that the course is a good fit.
